Dialog: "Over a Campfire"
Setting: Campfire after global disaster. Two new friends talk. They haven't seen anyone else in over a month.
A: Do you believe in God?
B: Of course. He saved me from the fire.
A: How can you say that?
B: Well there was a big fire and somehow I was saved.
A: Well what about all of the burnet people? Why didn't he help them?
B: He might have. I don't know all his ways. Suppose he knew they would suffer more after the fire if they'd lived? Maybe he did them a favor.
A: Well what about you?
B: What about me.
A: Why did he save you?
B: Knew I could take it I guess. I already lived the same way before. Ain't really much different now.
A: How can you say that? There ain't nothing now.
B: There never was anything to begin with. Except him and us of course. All that other shit was smoke and mirrors. What use do we have now for a fancy car? Listen, I get more joy now out a small piece of food then I ever got from before.
A: I'll grant you that. Food is appreciated now more than ever. The problem was we didn't know how good we had it. We were just blinded by buying more things.
B: I agree but you don't go far enough. All of that shit was worthless. It was a trick by the devil.
A: You believe in the devil? I shouldn't be surprised.
B: Look around and tell me there ain't no devil.
A: You are an idiot if you can't look around and see their ain't no devil, ain't no God. You and I are just specks of cosmic dust attached to a tiny spinning pebble, swinging around a slightly less tiny, hotter pebble. If you can't see that I don't know what else to day.
B: It wasn't God who abandoned us: we abandoned him. We were the ones who kept looking at our stuff instead of praising him. We did this to ourselves and he’s dealing out the punishment in the afterlife.
A: You don't know what you're talking about. We didn't deserve this.
B: Who pulled the trigger? Pressed the button? It sure wasn't him. It was one of our leaders.
A: Well why didn't your God stop it? Wouldn't he want to save his precious science experiment?
B: He saved you. Maybe you and I were worth saving for some reason.
A: So you're telling me my wife and son weren't worth saving?
A: Do you believe in God?
B: Of course. He saved me from the fire.
